The Reserve Bank of India has issued regulations stating that authorized dealers may only provide non-deliverable derivative contracts related to the Indian Rupee to non-resident users for the purpose of hedging risk. This regulatory requirement is aimed at regulating trading order in the non-deliverable derivatives market for the Indian Rupee, preventing speculative transactions without substantive hedging needs from causing unnecessary disruption to the normal fluctuation of the Rupee exchange rate, and maintaining the stable operation of India's foreign exchange market.
