09:17 AM EDT, 09/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was down 0.3% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) retreated 0.6% in Monday's premarket activity as oil prices rose amid US-Iran tensions. US stock futures were also lower, with S&P 500 Index futures down 0.4%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.5%, and Nasdaq futures retreating 0.6% before the start of regular trading. The Dallas Federal Reserve's manufacturing reading for September will be released at 10:30 am ET. Fed Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman, Fed Governor Lisa Cook and Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin are slated to speak on Monday. In premarket activity, bitcoin was down by 1.6%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 0.8% lower, Ether ETF (EETH) retreated 0.3%, and Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) was flat. Power Play: Health Care The State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) retreated 0.1%, the Vanguard Health Care Index Fund (VHT) was down 0.02%, while the iShares US Healthcare ETF (IYH) slipped 0.2%. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was flat. Kodiak Sciences (KOD) stock was up 72% pre-bell after the company said its two experimental eye drugs, Zenkuda and tabirafusp-ted, met primary endpoints in a phase 3 study in patients with wet age-related macular degeneration. Winners and Losers: Industrial The State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLI) retreated 0.3%, while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) and the iShares US Industrials ETF (IYJ) were inactive. Amprius Technologies (AMPX) stock was up more than 10% before the opening bell after the company said it won a grant of up to $75 million from the US Department of Defense to convert an existing domestic production line for electric vehicle batteries to high-energy density cells for unmanned aerial systems. Energy The iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) was inactive, while the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) was up by 1.4%. Eni (E) stock was up more than 4% before the market open. The company said on Friday that it will cap prices in Italy for diesel and gasoline sold through its Enilive network. Consumer The State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) was down 0.02%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Index Fund ETF Shares (VDC) and the iShares US Consumer Staples ETF (IYK) were inactive. The State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) lost 0.2%. The VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) was inactive, while the State Street SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) was down 0.6%. Stellantis (STLA) shares were up more than 2% pre-bell after the company said its joint venture Dongfeng Stellantis Automotive Technology and Momenta have agreed to jointly develop driver-assistance systems for new Peugeot and Jeep models. Financial The State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) retreated 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was down 0.7%, while its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), was 0.6% higher. UBS Group (UBS) shares were down 1% in early hours activity after a 2.5% gain in Friday's session. Swiss newspaper Blick reported Sunday that the company has received interest from at least eight foreign banks regarding a possible merger or combination. Technology The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) retreated 0.6%, the iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was 0.7% lower, and the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was inactive. Among semiconductor ETFs, the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) was down 2.9%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) fell by 0.9%. Nvidia's (NVDA) shares were nearly 2% higher after the company increased its share buyback plan by $150 billion and announced an AI safety platform. Commodities Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose by 2.7% to $94.88 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas was down 4.1% at $3.07 per 1 million British Thermal Units. The United States Oil Fund (USO) increased by 2.5%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 3.2% higher. Gold futures for November retreated by 3.2% to $4,185 an ounce on the Comex. Silver futures fell by 4.6% to $61.82 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) was down by 3.3%, and the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) declined by 4.9%.
