Fed Could Stand Pat in Sept if Oil Prices, Inflation Trend Lower -- Market Talk

0308 GMT - The Federal Reserve is likely to keep rates unchanged at its September meeting in the absence of a sharp rise in oil and assuming inflation trends lower, says Blerina Uruci, chief U.S. economist at T. Rowe Price. Given the number of dissents in Wednesday's FOMC meeting and uncertainty over oil, the market is pricing the September rate decision at 50/50, she says in a note. "The market will continue to press the Fed and probably will not back off until the inflation data forces its hand," she says, maintaining her view of no change in Fed rates. The U.S. June core CPI print didn't influence the Fed decision, she says, adding that Warsh is watching the trend and "with some luck the trend might be his friend in a few months."(monica.gupta@wsj.com)
