IMF approves final disbursement of $371 million to Ghana, marking completion of reforms with inflation dropping sharply and reserves doubling

The IMF Executive Board has approved the final review of Ghana's economic reform program, immediately disbursing $371 million to the country, bringing total disbursements under the three-year arrangement to $3 billion.
The Fund stated that Ghana's overall implementation under the reform framework has been satisfactory. Since the program was launched in May 2023, substantial progress has been made in macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability, inflation has fallen significantly, and foreign exchange reserves are expected to nearly double by 2025.
The West African exporter of cocoa, gold, and crude oil has achieved a primary fiscal surplus, and the risk of debt distress has fallen to a moderate level. Economic growth is projected at 6% in 2025, rising further to 6.4% in the first quarter of 2026, with reform dividends continuing to be realized in the real economy.
Regarding the mild deviation from the performance criterion resulting from the central bank's excess claims on the government at the end of December 2025, due to cost-sharing arrangements related to the domestic gold purchase program, the Executive Board has approved a waiver, recognizing that this deviation is temporary and the authorities have taken corrective measures.
