Myanmar introduces tough anti-fraud legislation: Crypto fraud now punishable by up to life imprisonment
BlockBeats reported that on July 28, the Myanmar parliament passed a law on Tuesday allowing the death penalty for individuals who coerce others into engaging in online fraud through violence or illegal detention. According to the bill draft released in May this year, if such abuse leads to the victim's death, "the death penalty shall be imposed."
The new law also stipulates that individuals who operate online scam compounds or conduct "digital currency scams (cryptocurrency scams)" may face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment; criminals who employ violent coercion or illegal detention can be sentenced to 10 years to life imprisonment.
