(1) Data from the UK Office for National Statistics shows that government borrowing in June was £16 billion (approximately $21.49 billion), a decrease of £7.9 billion compared to the same month in 2025, representing a reduction of one third. (2) The total accumulated borrowing for this fiscal year (up to June) was £57.6 billion, a year-on-year decrease of £3.7 billion, but still £2.7 billion higher than the forecast by the Office for Budget Responsibility. (3) The decline in borrowing in June was mainly due to a significant reduction in interest expenses—interest expenditure for the month was £11.8 billion, a decrease of £5.3 billion compared to the same period last year.
