U.S. stocks opened higher but closed slightly lower; storage stocks rebounded from lows

Glonghui, July 21 — Under the dual pressure of Middle East geopolitical risks and the approaching earnings season for tech giants, the three major US stock indexes fluctuated and closed lower. The Nasdaq fell 0.05%, the S&P 500 Index dropped 0.19%, and the Dow lost 0.59% to close at 51,839.26 points, marking its lowest closing price since June 24. Tech giants saw mixed movements: NVIDIA rose 0.23%, Apple dropped 2.14%, Google C gained 1.52%, Microsoft advanced 2.15%, Amazon climbed 1.12%, Broadcom was up 1.98%, Meta lost 0.02%, SpaceX declined 3.34%, and Tesla tumbled 2.96%. Most stocks in the optical communications and storage sectors rose, with Lumentum and Credo surging over 4%, Marvell Technology up more than 3%, Coherent, SanDisk, and Western Digital rallying over 2%, Seagate Technology and Micron Technology gaining more than 1%; SK Hynix dropped over 1%. Crypto-related stocks soared, with Bit Digital up 10%, Galaxy Digital rising over 9%, and Circle and Bakkt gaining more than 8%. Warner Bros. Discovery dropped 3.76%, hitting its lowest close since April 2025. According to reports, a US judge has halted Paramount's acquisition of Warner Bros. In Chinese stocks, the Nasdaq Golden Dragon China Index rose 0.9%, Kingsoft Cloud climbed 5.24%, Alibaba advanced 4.67%, Futu Holdings gained 3.34%, JD.com was up 3.31%, while XPeng Group dropped 2.51%.
