U.S. stablecoin legislation could be introduced in the first half of this year

2024/02/01 21:22

U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis has said that "very delicate" negotiations are underway on legislation targeting stablecoin issuers in the U.S. Lummis said she is optimistic that we will see stablecoin legislation this year and possibly even in the first half of the year. The negotiations are taking place not only between Democrats and Republicans, but also between the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, and Lummis said she is optimistic that we will see stablecoin legislation this year, possibly even in the first half of the year. Stablecoins such as Tether's USDT and Circle Internet Financial's USDC are an important part of the crypto market, as they are tokens pegged to the value of the US dollar and are used as a stabilising means of trading other, more volatile assets. Currently, the market capitalisation of stablecoins is around $136 billion.
