$GRVT Hyperliquid Strategies Inc (NASDAQ: $PURR) is tripling the amount it can spend buying back its own stock, a decision that lands while the digital-asset treasury company’s shares trade below the value of the $HYPE tokens on its balance sheet. The board lifted the repurchase program to as much as $100 million from $30 million and pushed its termination date out to October 31, 2027, from December 5, 2026, the company said in a press release on Friday, October 23. Roughly $72 million remains available under the enlarged authorization, which implies about $28 million of the earlier program had already been deployed. For a vehicle whose stated purpose is accumulating $HYPE, the arithmetic of retiring discounted equity now matters almost as much as the token purchases themselves. The Terms of the Expanded Authorization The increase is a board-level decision, not an open-ended market operation. “The increase in the program reflects the Board’s confidence in the Company’s long-term capital strategy and provides flexibility to buy back $PURR shares as part of the Company’s broader treasury management framework,” the company said. The mechanics are deliberately open. Repurchases may be made “from time to time in open market transactions at prevailing market prices, in privately negotiated transactions or by other means in accordance with federal securities laws.” The company added that “the actual timing, number and value of shares repurchased under the program will be determined by management at its discretion and will depend on a number of factors, including the market price of HSI’s common stock, general market and economic conditions and applicable legal requirements.” The original $30 million authorization was announced in late August 2026. Tripling it to $100 million and adding more than a year of runway to the termination date signals that the board wants the tool available through 2027, not just for a quarter-end window. A Treasury Company Trading Below Its Net Asset Value The company’s own dashboard, updated October 22, counts 38.8 million $HYPE tokens held, worth about $2.98 billion at the dashboard’s $76.69 token price. Against that, $PURR has 301.1 million fully diluted shares and a fully diluted market capitalization near $2.67 billion. The dashboard puts adjusted net asset value at roughly $9.92 per share, which means the stock was trading at a 0.89x multiple to that NAV figure. That discount is the entire story in one ratio. At a share price near $8.85, a $100 million buyback would retire roughly 11.3 million shares, or about 3.8% of the fully diluted count. And because each share changes hands at 0.89x NAV, every dollar spent on repurchases retires about $1.12 of net asset value. That is roughly 12% of per-share accretion at the dashboard’s figures, and it compounds with each block of shares retired. $HYPE itself traded near $76.72 on October 24, according to CoinGecko, with a market capitalization near $17.1 billion. The token entered the top 10 by market capitalization in September after a run of record highs, and Hyperliquid Strategies remains the largest $HYPE-focused treasury vehicle, so its capital-allocation decisions read through directly to how efficiently shareholders hold exposure to the token. Why Buy Back Shares Instead of More $HYPE The tension is real. The company’s primary focus is accumulating $HYPE, and a buyback is a competing use of the same balance sheet. At a 0.89x discount, retiring equity is mechanically more NAV-accretive per dollar than buying $HYPE at par, but it does not grow the token position or the staking yield that flows from it. The board has effectively widened the ceiling on one tool while leaving the accumulation strategy intact. This is the same playbook spreading across crypto treasury companies. Strategy’s STRC buybacks reached $192 million as its Bitcoin accumulation slowed in late October, and smaller $HYPE and Bitcoin treasury vehicles have used repurchases to defend per-share value when their stocks trade at discounts. For a company like Hyperliquid Strategies, which runs a validator and stakes its treasury $HYPE, a buyback is also a signal to equity holders that the discount will not be allowed to widen unchecked. Part of the calculus is what the treasury does with the $HYPE it already holds. Hyperliquid Strategies runs a Hyperliquid validator jointly with Unit Labs, and the majority of the initial stake is delegated from its own treasury $HYPE, custodied at Anchorage Digital Bank. Staking that position produces a yield stream, and every additional $HYPE token bought enlarges it. A share buyback adds nothing to that stream; it reallocates equity between holders. The board’s decision therefore reads as a judgment that the stock’s discount is wide enough to justify diverting capital away from token accumulation, up to the new ceiling. The counterargument is straightforward: repurchasing shares when the underlying asset is down does not create $HYPE. It reallocates the discount from one set of holders to another. A buyback is accretive on paper at a discount, but only if the token price holds or rises; the moment $HYPE falls faster than the buyback can retire shares, the per-share NAV falls regardless.

$GRVT BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes, a leading figure in the cryptocurrency market, is back in the spotlight with his recent $22.28 million cryptocurrency sale, sparking debate about his past transactions. The fact that some altcoins he sold in 2026 subsequently experienced significant price increases has fueled criticism of his market timing. According to the shared price comparison, all four altcoins that Hayes sold off in June are trading above their selling levels. Hyperliquid ($HYPE) surged 24%, rising from approximately $65.2, the price at which Hayes was selling, to $81. $NEAR Protocol ($NEAR) also saw a 120% increase, climbing from $2.23 to $4.91. The most remarkable performance was seen in Zcash ($ZEC). $ZEC, which Hayes reportedly sold for around $390, reached $1,220 in the comparison, showing an increase of over 200 percent. Worldcoin ($WLD), on the other hand, rose from $0.41 to $0.58, gaining approximately 40 percent in value. Arthur Hayes First Gave a $150 Target, Then Sold the Hype Among Hayes’ past projects, Hyperliquid was one of the most controversial. The renowned investor argued on June 1st that $HYPE would outperform all cryptocurrencies in the top 10 by market capitalization by the end of the year. Hayes had also previously shared a price target of $150 for $HYPE by August. However, just three days after these optimistic statements, on June 4th, $HYPE announced that it was closing its entire position. Similarly, although Hayes described $HYPE, $ZEC, and $NEAR as the “holy trinity” of the cryptocurrency market on May 22, he closed his positions in all three assets by June 5. The $ZEC sell-off was triggered by a security vulnerability related to Zcash’s Orchard privacy pool. Following this development, the $ZEC price experienced a sharp decline, and Hayes sold off his assets, citing technical risks. A similar scenario unfolded with Worldcoin. Hayes decided to sell just one day after stating that he would continue holding $WLD during SpaceX’s IPO process. Following these developments, on-chain researcher ZachXBT accused Hayes of using his followers as exit liquidity for his own sell-offs. This assessment was based on the contradiction between Hayes’s publicly delivered bullish messages and the sell-offs he subsequently carried out. On the other hand, it was reported that a wallet linked to Hayes repurchased $2 million worth of $HYPE at approximately $59 on June 8th. The fact that $HYPE rose to $97.96 in September also reignited discussions about the timing of the investor’s transactions. Related News The Big Whales Are on the Move: An Institutional Whale Sold $33 Million Worth of 3 Altcoins Now They’re Selling Ethereum, $ENA, and $UNI In his latest statement on October 24, Hayes confirmed that investment firm Maelstrom had closed all positions in its directional trading portfolio. While Ethereum ($ETH), Ethereum ($ENA), and Uniswap ($UNI) accounted for the largest portion of the approximately $22.28 million in transactions, Hayes stated that he believes the market may fall again before rising due to macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainties. However, $ETH and $ENA prices are hovering near the levels where the recent sell-off occurred. Therefore, it’s too early to assess whether Hayes is exiting at the right time this time. *This is not investment advice.
