September CPI Beats Across the Board, Rate-Hike Bets Rise — Will Warsh Sound More Hawkish Friday?

U.S. September CPI rose 3.7% year over year, above the 3.6% forecast and the prior 3.4%; the monthly rise was 0.6%, in line with forecasts. Core CPI rose 2.6% year over year versus 2.5% expected and 2.4% prior, and 0.3% month over month versus 0.2% expected. After the release, traders added to bets on an October Fed hike and now price three more hikes by the end of 2027. U.S. index futures and gold dropped, while Treasury yields and the dollar index rose.
