Bitcoin at $83K: Best Cryptocurrencies to Buy During the Dip (October 2026)

Bitcoin is trading at $83,000, roughly 34% below its all-time high of $126,080. The market’s decline has left investors asking the same question: Is this a good time to buy crypto, or could prices fall further?

This article looks at Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB, XRP and Solana using prices as of October 20, 2026. It also examines the reasons behind the decline and the importance of the Federal Reserve’s October 27–28 meeting.

Key points

  • Current prices: Bitcoin is $83,000, Ethereum $2,462, BNB $738, XRP $1.34 and Solana $107.
  • Distance from all-time highs: Bitcoin is approximately 34% below its peak, BNB 46%, Ethereum 50%, XRP 63% and Solana 64%.
  • Reasons behind the decline: High inflation, concerns about a potential Fed rate increase, rising oil prices and outflows from spot Bitcoin ETFs are weighing on the market.
  • All eyes on the Fed: The October 27–28 meeting could move prices in either direction.
  • Position size matters: A lower price does not guarantee a recovery. Only invest money you can afford to lose entirely.

Best Cryptocurrencies to Invest in Right Now: An Overview of the October 2026 Dip

When markets fall, more people start searching for cryptocurrencies that might offer buying opportunities. However, the distance from an asset’s peak does not, on its own, show that it is cheap. The list below compares current prices with all-time highs and shows how much prices would need to rise to return to those levels:

  • Bitcoin (BTC): Current price: $83,000. All-time high: $126,080. Bitcoin is approximately 34.2% below its peak and would need to reach about 1.5 times its current price to return there.
  • BNB: Current price: $738. All-time high: $1,369.99. BNB is approximately 46.1% below its peak and would need to reach about 1.9 times its current price to return there.
  • Ethereum (ETH): Current price: $2,462. All-time high: $4,946.05. Ethereum is approximately 50.2% below its peak and would need to reach about twice its current price to return there.
  • XRP: Current price: $1.34. All-time high: $3.65. XRP is approximately 63.3% below its peak and would need to reach about 2.7 times its current price to return there.
  • Solana (SOL): Current price: $107. All-time high: $293.31. Solana is approximately 63.5% below its peak and would need to reach about 2.7 times its current price to return there.

These calculations are not predictions that prices will return to their highs. A cryptocurrency that has already fallen sharply can decline further. An asset that suits one investor may not match another investor’s expectations or risk tolerance.

Why Is Bitcoin Around $83K? What Is Behind the October 2026 Decline?

Several developments have put pressure on the crypto market at the same time. According to Decrypt’s October 14 report, annual US consumer price inflation rose from 3.4% in August to 3.7% in September, exceeding expectations. This increased concerns that the Fed could raise interest rates again.

CME FedWatch data cited by Decrypt and FXStreet showed that markets priced in an approximately 44%–49% probability of an October rate increase after the inflation release. By October 16, that probability had fallen to around 15%.

Higher oil prices added to the pressure. Reports on October 8 said renewed tanker attacks near the Strait of Hormuz had pushed Brent crude above $105. More expensive oil increased inflation concerns and triggered selling in risk assets, including cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin fell below $81,000 that day. CoinGlass data cited by Yahoo Finance showed approximately $974 million in crypto liquidations within 24 hours, including $311 million in Ethereum positions.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs, meanwhile, saw alternating inflows and outflows. According to Investing.com’s October 17 report, the funds recorded net outflows of $65.4 million on October 12, $261.4 million on October 14 and $82.39 million on October 16. They received $175.7 million in inflows on October 13.

Bitcoin briefly fell below $80,000 that week before recovering. Its rebound to $83,000 shows that it has regained some ground, although it remains well below its all-time high.

Is It a Good Time to Buy Crypto? What the Dip Does and Does Not Tell Us

Investors considering buying the dip mainly want to know whether the worst of the selling is over. There is no certain answer.

Some analysts see data that could point to a bottom forming. According to Bitcoin.com’s October 16 report, Glassnode said the loss-taking on October 15 resembled selling waves that coincided with local bottoms in August and September. That similarity suggests a local bottom may have formed around $80,000.

Still, a bottom can only be confirmed in hindsight. Bitcoin is now at $83,000, back above the $82,000 level it previously lost. The next questions are whether it can hold above $82,000 and break through $84,000. The Fed’s October 27–28 meeting is one of the nearest events that could influence that direction.

Buying the dip produces a gain only if the price subsequently recovers. Otherwise, the investor has bought an asset that continues to lose value. Before buying, it is therefore important to decide how much to allocate and under what conditions to stop making further purchases. The assessments below focus on existing drawdowns, developments that could change the outlook and the amount of risk involved, rather than price predictions.

Bitcoin (BTC): The Core Dip-Buying Candidate

Bitcoin is the largest crypto asset, with a market capitalization of approximately $1.6 trillion. That makes it one of the first assets people examine when considering a crypto investment. At $83,000, it is approximately 34% below its October 2025 record of $126,080.

Levels previously watched by analysts included $80,000 as a possible local bottom and $82,000–$84,000 as a resistance zone. Bitcoin is now trading within that range. Whether it holds above $82,000 and moves past $84,000 will be important in assessing whether the recovery can continue.

A softer Fed stance, stronger ETF inflows or falling oil prices could support Bitcoin. Another above-forecast inflation reading or a Fed message favoring continued tight monetary policy could increase selling pressure.

Ethereum (ETH): A Bigger Decline and a Longer Road to Recovery

Ethereum is trading at $2,462, approximately 50% below its all-time high of $4,946.05. Its price would need to roughly double to return to that level.

During the latest sell-off, Ethereum positions saw larger liquidations than Bitcoin. Ethereum investment products also recorded $69.68 million in outflows on October 16.

The distance from its peak leaves substantial upside if a recovery takes place. However, that gap does not prove the decline is over. Investors considering Ethereum need to weigh the possibility of further losses alongside the potential return.

BNB: A Smaller Decline

BNB is priced at $738, approximately 46% below its all-time high of $1,369.99. Its peak-to-current decline is smaller than those of Ethereum, XRP and Solana.

XRP and Solana: The Deepest Declines on the List

At $1.34, XRP is approximately 63.3% below its $3.65 peak. Solana is trading at $107, approximately 63.5% below its all-time high of $293.31. Both would need to reach about 2.7 times their current prices to return to those highs.

Losses of this size can suggest significant upside in a recovery, but they also highlight the risks. There is a long way back to previous highs, and price swings can be sharp. According to Yahoo Finance, Solana fell more than 7% during the October 8 sell-off, making it one of the biggest decliners among major cryptocurrencies.

How to Buy the Dip in Crypto: Five Rules for Investing Right Now

  1. Spread your purchases over time. Dividing the amount into several purchases prevents you from committing all your money at one price if the market falls further.
  2. Decide how much you can afford to lose. Use that limit to determine how much of your portfolio to allocate to crypto.
  3. Avoid leverage. Most of the approximately $974 million in liquidations within 24 hours on October 8 involved leveraged positions betting on higher prices.
  4. Set your investment time frame. A trade lasting a few days requires a different approach from an investment held for years. Neither guarantees a profit.
  5. Check the information yourself. Use official websites, verify contract addresses through a blockchain explorer and read audit reports. Do not buy through links sent in messages.

Best Cryptocurrencies to Invest in During October 2026: Short Term vs. Long Term

Before choosing a cryptocurrency, investors need to decide how long they intend to hold it. In the short term, Fed decisions, inflation data, oil prices and ETF flows are major drivers. These developments can trigger another selling wave or a sharp recovery within days.

Long-term investors tend to focus more on adoption, network usage and how far prices have fallen from previous levels. None of these factors eliminates investment risk. Many investors give Bitcoin and Ethereum a larger share of their portfolios while allocating smaller amounts to altcoins.

At current prices, all the major cryptocurrencies on this list remain below their all-time highs. That does not make them equally attractive buying opportunities. Alongside the expected return, investors need to consider how much loss they could absorb if prices fall again.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is the Best Cryptocurrency to Invest in Right Now?

There is no single answer that applies to everyone. Bitcoin and Ethereum are among the largest and most liquid cryptocurrencies, but their prices are approximately 34% and 50% below their respective peaks. Their size does not eliminate investment risk.

What Is the Best Cryptocurrency to Buy in October 2026?

That depends on your investment goals and risk tolerance. Consider not only how far a price has fallen, but also what could support a recovery and how a potential loss would affect your finances.

Is It a Good Time to Buy Crypto?

There is no way to say for certain. Bitcoin has recovered to $83,000, but it remains unclear whether the area around $80,000 represents a lasting bottom. The Fed’s October 27–28 meeting could also trigger further price moves.

Should I Buy the Dip in Crypto?

Buying the dip produces a profit if the price subsequently rises. If it continues to fall, the investment loses value. Spreading purchases over time and limiting the amount invested can help reduce potential losses.

Is Bitcoin a Good Investment Right Now?

Bitcoin is at $83,000, approximately 34% below its all-time high. Some investors see that gap as an opportunity, while others believe the decline could continue. Any decision needs to account for Bitcoin’s continued exposure to sharp price swings.

Is Ethereum a Good Investment Right Now?

Ethereum is trading at $2,462, approximately 50% below its peak. Its price would need to roughly double to return to its all-time high. That does not mean a recovery is certain. Recent large liquidations also show how sharp its price movements can be.

Is XRP a Good Cryptocurrency to Invest in Right Now?

XRP is at $1.34, approximately 63% below its all-time high. It would need to reach about 2.7 times its current price to return to that level. Any assessment of its potential return should also consider sharp fluctuations and the risk of further declines.

What Are the Best Altcoins to Buy Now?

Ethereum is $2,462, BNB $738, XRP $1.34 and Solana $107. Although all are well below their all-time highs, there is no certain way to know which will recover first or deliver the strongest rebound.

Report: Anthropic to Invest Over $600 Billion in Computing Power. The company generated $16.3 billion in revenue in the first half of the year, with approximately $9 billion spent on computing power.

Anthropic is preparing for a historic IPO with a valuation between 1.5 and 2 trillion yuan, aiming to go public in November. For the first half of 2026, net losses reached 80.7 billion USD (mainly due to accounting provisions), with revenue at 16.3 billion USD; third-quarter revenue grew by 45% quarter-on-quarter to 16.8 billion USD. The company's total commitment to computing power expenditures exceeds 600 billion USD, covering agreements with Google Cloud, AWS, Microsoft, and Nvidia chip leasing. Although the company claims to have achieved adjusted positive profits in the second quarter, enormous rigid computing costs and a lack of financial transparency remain core risks for investors.
