Market Chatter: Google's Challenge to Patent Review Rule Rejected by Supreme Court

MT newswireMT newswire2026/10/19 14:31
10:31 AM EDT, 10/19/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Alphabet's Google's (GOOGL) challenge to a US Patent and Trademark Office policy was rejected by the US Supreme Court after the company argued the rule protected older patents from reviews and helped trigger a surge in patent litigation, Reuters reported Monday. The case stems from VirtaMove's patent infringement accusation against Google. The patent office rejected Google's petition to review the patent in 2025, and a federal appeals court upheld the decision, the report said. Alphabet didn't immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires. (Market Chatter news is derived from conversations with market professionals globally.
