Dollar Stabilizes After Losses on AI Worries, Reduced U.S. Rate-Rise Bets -- Market Talk

Dow JonesDow Jones2026/10/19 06:43

0643 GMT - The dollar stabilizes after reaching a two-week low Friday driven by concerns over debt-funded AI investments and reduced expectations that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates again on October 28. Markets are only pricing a 12% chance the Fed will raise rates by 25 basis points next week, LSEG data show. However, a rate increase is fully priced for December followed by nearly two more rises next year. Oil prices remain elevated while recent U.S. inflation data for September came in higher than expected, supporting the case for future tightening. The DXY dollar index trades steady at 101.873 after falling to as low as 101.576 on Friday. It had reached an 18-month high of 102.945 Wednesday. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
