Treasury yields are rising again and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are solidly lower. Here's what is moving markets today:
-- CPI report: Consumer prices rose by more than economists expected in September, putting the prospect of an October rate hike back on the table. The 2-year Treasury yield, which is sensitive to short-term rate expectations, spiked close to this year's highs. Economically sensitive parts of the stock market such as small caps, real estate, and consumer discretionary underperformed.
-- The AI trade: Chip manufacturers, data center operators, and other stocks tied to the AI boom are selling off for a second straight day. One issue investors are confronting: between interest rates and component shortages, the AI buildout keeps growing more expensive.
-- Earnings: Bank of America fell sharply after a steep regulatory fine hit its profits. Meanwhile, BlackRock shares rose after the investment manager beat Wall Street's expectations for revenue and income while growing assets past $15 trillion in the third quarter.
