Social Security Seen as One of Inflation's Few Beneficiaries -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/10/14 14:451044 ET - One of the only good features of the current run of elevated inflation is the cost-of-living adjustment for Social Security beneficiaries, Harris Financial Group's Jamie Cox says. The Social Security Administration just said benefits are set to rise by 3.6% in 2027, the biggest upward adjustment since 2023. Gasoline and energy prices are the proximate and temporary causes of the current run-up in inflation, so Social Security recipients could end up with a real, meaningful increase in benefits when the energy supply shock finally winds down, Cox says.
