IMF Warns of Financial Market Risks From AI, Bond Yields and Cyberattacks

07:59 PM EDT, 10/13/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The International Monetary Fund warned Tuesday that an artificial intelligence-driven market correction, rising government bond yields and cyberattacks could threaten global financial stability. The report said rising leverage, limited liquidity and interconnected markets could amplify shocks. A review of 14 AI-sector financing transactions since 2023 found about $300 billion in equity investments and $650 billion in debt tied to $1.4 trillion in future revenue commitments. The IMF said policymakers should put government debt on a sustainable path, limit leverage and liquidity mismatches in AI and private credit, and strengthen cyber defenses. It also warned that banks representing 22% of global banking assets could fall below regulatory capital limits under an adverse stress scenario, up from 18% a year earlier.
