Reuters, October 12 - Bristol Myers Squibb (BMY.N) said on Monday that its experimental drug showed positive results at a lower dose in late-stage clinical trials among patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (a severe lung scarring disease), achieving the main study objective.
The company's share price rose more than 6% in pre-market trading.
The trial enrolled a total of 1,255 participants and aimed to test two doses of admilparant, with the primary objective being to improve lung function over 52 weeks.
The company stated that a dose of admilparant at 60 mg twice daily showed statistically significant efficacy in maintaining lung function compared to placebo.
Lung function was measured by forced vital capacity, which is the amount of air a person can forcibly exhale after taking a deep breath.
However, during the same period, the 120 mg dose of admilparant did not show a statistically significant improvement in lung function.
The company said both doses of the drug were generally well tolerated, with a low rate of treatment discontinuation due to side effects, similar to the placebo group.
