Microsoft (MSFT.US) CEO Satya Nadella stated that enterprises should regard powerful AI models as potential internal threats, presume these models may have been compromised, and establish "emergency brake" mechanisms to prevent autonomous AI agents from running out of control. On Saturday, Nadella posted on social media: "We must assume the models have already been breached and apply restrictions from the outset. Imagine this as an emergency braking device. Authorized personnel should always be able to pause or shut down the model during task execution." Nadella’s safety recommendations include: not relying on a single model for critical decisions; retaining tamper-proof records of AI agent behavior; and subjecting systems to independent audits. He also called for the disclosure of major failures or security vulnerabilities, urging enterprises to share the root causes and relevant details of incidents so that others can enhance their security measures.
