Top Cryptocurrencies Fall; Bitcoin Drops Below $84,000
MT newswire2026/10/07 19:5303:53 PM EDT, 10/07/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Top cryptocurrencies fell Wednesday with Bitcoin (BTC-USD) dropping below $84,000. The CoinDesk Market Index, which tracks dozens of digital assets including Bitcoin, fell 3.4% in the past 24 hours. The Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 each declined 0.3%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.7%. Bitcoin fell 2.7% to $83,297, according to CoinMarketCap data. The most popular cryptocurrency's 24-hour trading volume surged 51% to $38.2 billion. Ethereum (ETH-USD), the second-largest digital asset by market value, slumped 4.6% to $2,566. XRP (XRP-USD) dropped 5.3%, BNB (BNB-USD) lost 1.1%, and Solana (SOL-USD) shed 4%. Dogecoin (DOGE-USD) decreased 5.5%, and Cardano (ADA-USD) tumbled 5.6%. The total market value of the cryptocurrency industry fell 2.6% in the past 24 hours to $2.83 trillion, with trading volume rising 42% to $103.5 billion.
