Sector Update: Tech Stocks Gain Late Afternoon

03:51 PM EDT, 10/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Tech stocks advanced late Thursday afternoon with the State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rising 1.2% and the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) adding 1.1%. The Philadelphia Semiconductor index gained 1.6%. In corporate news, Micron Technology (MU) shares rose 2.2% after it provided a fiscal Q1 outlook above market estimates and reported stronger-than-expected Q4 results amid rising memory prices. Amazon.com-backed (AMZN) Anthropic may start formal marketing for its initial public offering as early as the week of Nov. 9, which would set it up to start trading before the US Thanksgiving holiday, Bloomberg reported. Shares eased 0.2%. Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google must face publisher claims seeking roughly $3.2 billion in damages for allegedly monopolizing the digital ad-tech market, a federal judge in New York ruled Wednesday, while dismissing claims by two smaller plaintiffs. Shares were down 1.5%. Accenture (ACN) reported stronger-than-expected fiscal Q4 results on Thursday, and it forecast earnings and revenue in the ongoing fiscal year to rise annually. Shares jumped 16%.
