Sector Update: Financial Stocks Lean Lower Pre-Bell Wednesday

09:19 AM EDT, 09/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Financial stocks were leaning lower pre-bell Wednesday, with the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) declining by 0.3%. The Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was down 0.5% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was 0.9% higher. Paychex (PAYX) shares were down more than 7% even after the company reported higher fiscal Q1 adjusted earnings and revenue. UBS Group (UBS) stock was down more than 1% after the company said the decision by the Swiss Parliament's Council of States to further tighten Swiss capital requirements would be "excessive" if confirmed at the conclusion of the ongoing parliamentary process. Carlyle Group (CG) and Park Square have held preliminary talks with private equity firm Lone Star Funds to swap their debt in Italian coffee machine maker Evoca for equity, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Carlyle Group stock was 0.7% higher premarket.
