Microsoft Xbox Unit Cuts 268 Jobs, Restructures Multiple Game Studios

11:16 AM EDT, 09/22/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft's (MSFT) Xbox unit is cutting 268 jobs in its Halo Studios, internal development teams, and management layers, Chief Content Officer Matt Booty said Tuesday in a letter to the Xbox team. The division is reorganizing several studios to group teams working on shared franchises, the company said. Microsoft-owned Activision will take charge of World's Edge and Rare while building a separate team for the next Halo game, Xbox said. The firm is combining Playground Games and Turn 10 into a single team and exploring closing Ninja Theory after sale deals were unsuccessful, it said.
