Gurman says Apple's foldable iPhone may be named Duo and the product line could be expanded

On September 13 local time, well-known tech journalist Mark Gurman posted that Apple’s first foldable screen iPhone Duo is expected to push foldable phones into the mainstream. He also predicted that Apple will further expand this product line in the coming years, launching an iPhone Duo Max with a larger screen, and possibly introducing a more streamlined Duo SE or a Duo mini with a vertical folding design. Gurman stated that Apple ultimately chose “Duo” instead of the widely speculated “Ultra” because, like Air and Pro, “Duo” has three letters, making it more suitable for a product series name and leaving room to add suffixes like “Max” or “SE” in the future. Previously, Apple’s internal staff had referred to this foldable iPhone as “Ultra.” Gurman predicted that as technology costs fall and uses for foldable devices increase, foldable phones could account for more than half of new phone sales over the next decade. Currently, foldable phones make up about 2% of global smartphone shipments.
