Top 3 Altcoins to Watch in September: ZEC, XMR, UNI

  • ZEC targets $903 and potentially $1,099 after breaking above the $750 cycle high.
  • XMR targets $538 and $600, but rising derivatives activity increases correction risks.
  • UNI targets $5.66 after clearing $4.43, supported by record protocol fee burns.

September brought fresh opportunities for traders watching privacy and DeFi tokens. ZEC, XMR, and UNI entered the month with strong technical setups. Each token also has a different catalyst that could influence price action. Zcash benefits from a new US spot product and rising market interest. Monero gained momentum after native swaps arrived through THORChain. Uniswap also posted record burn funding after activating new protocol fees. These factors make all three tokens worth monitoring closely during September.

Zcash (ZEC)

Zcash entered September with strong momentum following a major breakout. Grayscale listed the first US spot Zcash product on NYSE Arca. The product trades under the ZCSH ticker. First-session volume reached roughly $14.8 million, showing a quiet debut. However, ZEC broke higher three days before the listing. The token cleared the November 2025 cycle high near $750 on August 22. ZEC later reached $888 before approaching the $903 Fibonacci extension. A break above $903 could expose the next extension near $1,099. Meanwhile, a NU7 upgrade poll remains open through September 14. The proposal could replace halving with a smoother issuance schedule. Rejection near $903 could send ZEC back toward $750 support.

Monero (XMR)

Monero also enters September after a powerful seven-day rally. THORChain enabled native Monero swaps on August 25. Users can now trade XMR directly against Bitcoin and stablecoins. The change reduces reliance on wrapped assets and centralized exchanges. XMR broke above the May swing high on August 22. The token then gained 26.5% within seven days. XMR now faces resistance near the $538 Fibonacci retracement level. A move above $538 could open the path toward $600. The next major target remains the January record high near $799.89. However, traders should watch derivatives activity before chasing further gains. Open interest doubled within two weeks to roughly $278 million. Futures volume also remains far higher than spot activity.

Uniswap (UNI)

Uniswap offers another interesting setup heading into September. The protocol activated v4 fees and Robinhood Chain fees during late July. August became the first full month under both fee systems. Burn funding reached a record $8.9 million during the month. That figure roughly doubled the pace seen since January. UNI formed a higher low on August 14. The token then broke above resistance at $3.99 and $4.43. UNI now tests the $4.94 Fibonacci retracement level. A successful breakout could target $5.66 before challenging $6.57. However, the September Senate vote on the CLARITY Act remains important. Failure could weaken the current breakout and slow momentum. Uniswap also maintains a 20 million UNI annual growth budget. Therefore, the burn trend does not guarantee long-term deflation.

ZEC combines strong momentum with a major market access catalyst. XMR has strong technical momentum but carries elevated derivatives risk. UNI benefits from rising fee activity while facing regulatory uncertainty.

"New Federal Reserve News Agency": The Federal Reserve is set to raise interest rates next week, but a single rate hike won't solve the problem

Nick Timiraos from "The New Federal Reserve News Agency" recently wrote that investors have largely concluded that the Federal Reserve will make its first interest rate hike in three years next week, but the harder question is what will happen afterward. Since almost no one inside the Fed believes that a single 25 basis point rate hike is enough to bring down inflation, a decision to raise rates next week would reflect the judgment that rates were previously set at the wrong level, and a single hike cannot solve the problem. Since the 1990s, the Fed has only had one "one-time" rate hike.

WTI crude oil net long positions hit a 20-week high as the Trump administration considers invoking the Defense Production Act to expand refining capacity

Refinery executives stated that it takes several years for new refineries to become operational, and they prefer to improve the efficiency of existing refineries. Currently, the average price of diesel in the United States has surpassed $6 per gallon for the first time, gasoline prices remain high, and refinery operating rates have reached approximately 98%. According to CFTC data, for the week ending September 8, net long positions in NYMEX WTI crude oil reached a 20-week high, and net long positions in gasoline hit a 9-month high.
