Analyst Enda Curran pointed out that the overall CPI data met expectations, and the annual core CPI data was also in line with forecasts, but the monthly increase in core CPI was particularly notable. This is not surprising — in August, the gasoline price index rose by 3.9%, accounting for one-third of all commodity price increases for the month.
