According to Nikkei, Nissan will maintain a production capacity of 1 million vehicles in Japan by reallocating production among its remaining factories after shutting down one plant. The Japanese automaker announced on Thursday that van production currently handled by two plants in Fukuoka Prefecture will be transferred to the Tochigi plant over the next two to three years. Nissan's Oppama plant in Kanagawa Prefecture will cease operations at the end of the 2027 fiscal year. This is part of Nissan's global plan to close and restructure seven vehicle assembly plants. After the Oppama plant closure, Nissan's domestic production capacity will decrease to about 800,000 vehicles. However, if vehicles manufactured for Nissan by Mitsubishi Motors are included, Nissan's production capacity in Japan will remain at approximately 1 million vehicles.
