Cardano (ADA) faced renewed selling pressure on Thursday, with the cryptocurrency losing nearly 3% in value and trading around $0.211. The recent pullback pushed the token near the $0.21 mark, a key psychological and technical level that could determine its immediate direction.
Cardano drops 3% as futures trading surges to $652 million
Futures trading overshadows spot activity
Trading activity in Cardano derivatives markets intensified, as futures contracts saw $651.78 million in 24-hour volume. This figure was significantly higher than the $112.29 million recorded in spot markets, indicating that leveraged trading played a major role in ADA’s price movement.
Futures volume was nearly six times that of spot trades, highlighting the growing influence of short-term traders operating with leverage. Elevated activity in derivatives often amplifies price volatility, as liquidations of leveraged positions can trigger sharper declines if prices move suddenly.
Open interest in ADA futures remained high at $445.52 million, suggesting that traders were still willing to maintain substantial exposure to the cryptocurrency despite its price weakness. If long positions built up during previous rallies begin to unwind, further downside pressure may develop.
Holding above the $0.21 threshold is now seen as crucial. Dropping below this level could prompt more aggressive selling, while stabilization at current prices may allow bulls to absorb the selling pressure and set up for a potential rebound.
Observers are watching shifts in open interest, funding rates, and liquidation data for insights into whether current bearish momentum will persist or show signs of exhaustion.
Futures trading in Cardano reached $651.78 million in 24 hours, far outpacing spot volume and underscoring the influence of leveraged traders on ADA’s price dynamics.
For now, the combination of a 3% drop and robust derivatives activity points to continued vulnerability in ADA’s short-term price action.
Key support and resistance levels in focus
ADA managed to remain slightly above $0.2100 on Thursday after three consecutive days of declines. The token currently holds a constructive short-term structure, staying above its 20-, 50-, and 100-day exponential moving averages (EMAs), which cluster between $0.19 and $0.21.
The 20-day EMA at $0.2094 has emerged as immediate support, with ADA’s stability above this level signaling continued commitment from buyers despite recent volatility.
A breakdown below the 20-day EMA would shift attention to a concentrated support zone surrounding $0.20. This support region includes the 100-day EMA at $0.2004, the 50% Fibonacci retracement at $0.1999, and the 50-day EMA at $0.1989, creating a cluster of technical levels that could provide a floor in the event of deeper losses.
| 20-day EMA | $0.2094 | Immediate support |
| 50-day EMA | $0.1989 | Lower support |
| 100-day EMA | $0.2004 | Lower support |
| 200-day EMA | $0.2446 | Key resistance |
| 78.6% Fibonacci | $0.2467 | Key resistance |
| 50% Fibonacci | $0.1999 | Support cluster |
To the upside, the primary resistance zone lies between the 200-day EMA at $0.2446 and the 78.6% Fibonacci retracement at $0.2467. Alignment between these technical markers could make this area difficult to break decisively, as sellers are likely to increase activity near these levels.
If ADA manages a sustained move above $0.2467, the next target would be set at the Fibonacci anchor close to $0.2887.
On the momentum front, Cardano’s Relative Strength Index (RSI) on the daily chart stands near 55, indicating moderate optimism and some room for further gains before entering overbought territory. However, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator has edged slightly below its signal line, reflecting waning upside momentum even as the price attempts to hold above $0.2100.
Ongoing indecision among technical signals could keep ADA rangebound until market participants establish clearer control.
