The International Energy Agency (IEA) stated on Thursday that due to the impact of Middle East conflicts, global coal demand is expected to increase by 1.2% in 2026, reaching a record high of 8.94 billion tonnes. Since the outbreak of the US-Iran war, disruptions in oil and liquefied natural gas transportation through the Strait of Hormuz have driven up prices, prompting countries with gas-fired power plants and idle coal capacity to increase coal-fired power generation.
