XRP price remains near $1 despite Ripple partnerships since 2018

A recent discussion on The Paul Barron Show spotlighted a long-standing concern within the XRP community: the token’s price remains subdued around $1, even as Ripple, the company behind XRP, has struck numerous partnerships and integrations since 2018. This sentiment was voiced by a show guest and later shared by crypto enthusiast Rose on X.

Price suppression and strategic timing questioned

Speaking with Paul Barron, the guest said he does not have direct concerns over the XRP ecosystem itself, but pointed out a trend he finds troubling. He emphasized that XRP’s value surpassed $3 in 2017 during a period with “almost no integration,” yet, despite major developments in recent years, the price remains comparatively low.

He admitted uncertainty about what might be holding the price back. “I kind of feel like the prices might have been suppressed for a while,” he stated, without specifying if this was due to external actors or an internal strategy at Ripple.

The guest suggested that Ripple might be intentionally delaying the activation of certain payment corridors until global central bank digital currency (CBDC) infrastructure is ready, explaining that proper liquidity must be established before significant corridors can go live.

Ripple has built new partnerships, integrations, and acquisitions since 2018, yet the XRP price has remained around $1, even after spiking above $3 in 2017 during a time of minimal integration, raising questions about what factors may be at play.

Barron, who hosts the show, reframed the topic as a matter of execution, indicating that the market might react more strongly once certain macroeconomic or regulatory milestones are achieved. He listed events such as policy decisions by the Federal Reserve, a possible interest rate reduction, and the adoption of the CLARITY Act as examples of potential catalysts.

Speculation on gold link and reserve status

In response, the guest noted he is unsure whether Ripple’s strategy may hinge on developments involving the XRP Ledger or even future scenarios where XRP could be pegged to gold. He referenced ongoing debates about a new global reserve system, mentioning concepts like a “digital Bretton Woods” or “Bretton Woods 3.”

The original Bretton Woods agreement created a reserve currency backed by gold in 1944. Former Federal Reserve Board nominee Judy Shelton has advocated for gold-backed monetary approaches and expressed interest in how distributed ledger technology could support such a system.

The guest concluded that he sees no clear answer, highlighting persistent uncertainty over whether Ripple’s long-term plan relies more on existing infrastructure or a mechanism tied to gold, possibly involving the Bank for International Settlements, an institution serving central banks and monetary authorities globally.

Gold accumulation and ongoing uncertainty

Barron responded that governments have been rapidly increasing their gold reserves at historically high rates. The conversation ultimately ended without a concrete conclusion, as the guest repeated he was not able to form a definitive view on Ripple’s timeline or methods. He cited numerous unknowns, including the impact of global regulation and how the XRP Ledger might function within potential international settlement systems.

There are still open questions surrounding Ripple’s roadmap and whether the implementation of payment corridors or new systems linked to gold will influence XRP’s role in the evolving global financial landscape.

Both Barron and his guest agreed a number of variables, from regulatory outcomes to macroeconomic factors, continue to shape expectations for XRP’s future.
