Bitcoin Price Anchors Above $78K as Rate Hikes and Iran Strikes Limit Rally

TipranksTipranks2026/09/01 16:03

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) price action anchored above $78,000 on Tuesday, maintaining its key trading levels following an August rally. However, ongoing rate hikes and U.S.-Iran military strikes limited a broader price breakout. Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh reinforced a firm 2% inflation target, increasing market expectations for a September interest rate increase. Higher interest rates reduce institutional appetite for speculative assets like crypto compared to fixed-income debt.

At the same time, renewed military exchanges between the U.S. and Iran pushed crude oil prices higher and reduced tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. These supply chain disruptions added to global inflation fears. Additional pressure came from U.S. labor reports showing July job openings at 7.271 million, falling below forecasts of 7.330 million and pointing to a slowing job market alongside elevated price risks.

Strategy Is Growing Its Bitcoin Treasury with $368M Purchase

Corporate accumulation provided key support to offset these macroeconomic pressures. Strategy (MSTR), the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin holder, ended a two-month buying pause by acquiring 4,603 tokens for $368.7 million. This transaction brought Strategy’s total treasury balance to 845,050 Bitcoins.

The company funded the purchase by issuing $602.8 million in common stock, using remaining proceeds to buy back preferred shares. Despite adding to its token balance, Strategy’s stock fell 3.8% during morning trading.

Other Crypto Altcoins Show Muted Price Action

Broader altcoin markets logged small price changes after posting strong gains through August. Ethereum (ETH-USD) dropped 0.7% to $2,450, while Solana (SOL-USD) fell 1.2% and BNB (BNB-USD) declined 0.5%.

In contrast, Cardano (ADA-USD) rose 1.2% and XRP (XRP-USD) edged up 0.2%. Memecrypto assets saw slight downside pressure, with Dogecoin (DOGE-USD) falling 0.3% and Trump (TRUMP) dropping 2.8%.
