08:47 AM EDT, 09/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Nio (NIO) on Tuesday posted a 69% year-over-year increase in its second-quarter revenue amid growth in vehicle deliveries, which are expected to continue rising in the ongoing quarter. The Chinese electric vehicle maker's revenue came in at 32.14 billion renminbi ($4.78 billion) for the June quarter, up 69% year over year, compared with the consensus of 32.58 billion renminbi based on three analyst estimates. Nio swung to adjusted earnings of 0.01 renminbi per American depositary share from a loss of 1.85 renminbi in the 2025 quarter. Three analysts surveyed by FactSet estimated a 0.22 renminbi loss. For the third quarter, the EV manufacturer anticipates deliveries to be in a range of 108,000 to 111,000 vehicles, representing annual growth of 24% to 28%. The company delivered 35,934 and 35,836 units, respectively, in July and August. Nio's American depositary receipts were down 1.9% in the most recent premarket activity. In the second quarter, deliveries climbed 49% on a yearly basis to 107,658 vehicles. Vehicle sales soared 80% to 29.06 billion renminbi, boosted by the increase in delivery volume and a higher average selling price due to product mix changes, according to the automaker. "In the second quarter of 2026, the company continued to improve its overall operating quality," Chief Financial Officer Stanley Yu Qu said in a statement. "Supported by strong sales of higher-margin models and ongoing optimization of our cost structure, we maintained healthy gross and vehicle margins despite rising cost pressures." Gross margin during the second quarter improved to 18.4% from 10% a year earlier, while vehicle margin expanded by 820 basis points to 18.5%. "Services and community-related businesses continued to contribute to profitability," according to Yu Qu. "With our solid, comprehensive systematic capabilities and clear business strategies, we are confident in achieving our full-year operating objectives and delivering high-quality growth." Nio expects revenue to come in between 33.29 billion renminbi and 34.05 billion renminbi for the third quarter, while three analysts polled by FactSet are looking for 36.01 billion renminbi. Last month, rival Chinese EV company XPeng (XPEV) provided a third-quarter revenue outlook below Wall Street's estimates, while its second-quarter sales fell short of expectations. Li Auto (LI) swung to a wider-than-expected second-quarter loss, while its revenue trailed market estimates. In July, EV giant Tesla (TSLA) reported an unexpected year-over-year decline in its second-quarter earnings, weighed down by expenses related to research and development and artificial intelligence initiatives.

Cook steps down but doesn’t retire; new Apple CEO faces the biggest challenge: how to steer the AI transformation under the watchful eye of the “old boss”?

Apple CEO Tim Cook officially stepped down on September 1st, with hardware chief John Ternus taking over. Cook has transitioned to the role of executive chairman and will continue to handle external affairs. The 51-year-old Ternus is known for his expertise in product development, aligning with Apple’s need for innovative hardware amid its AI transformation, but he lacks experience in political and business relations. Analysts believe that Cook’s continued involvement will help ensure a smooth transition, but it could also limit the new CEO’s autonomy. The real test will be whether Ternus can draw on Cook’s experience while gradually establishing his own leadership, guiding Apple through its AI transformation.
