Meta's Push for Teen Safety Measures Reportedly Puts TikTok, YouTube on Back Foot

07:22 PM EDT, 08/27/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Meta Platforms (META) is stepping up a public pressure campaign to push its social media rivals to adopt more measures to limit teen usage of their platforms, following an $18 billion teen safety settlement with US states, Bloomberg reported Thursday. The deal includes an incentive under which a $5.3 billion portion of Meta's payout over the next decade depends on its industry peers committing to similar platform changes and making comparable contributions to state initiatives aimed at helping teenagers with social media addiction, the media outlet said. "For meaningful progress to happen, we urge TikTok and YouTube to join us and state attorneys general in adopting this new standard, to ensure teens use social media in a healthy and responsible way," Meta said in a statement on Wednesday. Meta, TikTok, Alphabet's (GOOG) YouTube and Snap did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
