SK hynix (SKHY.US) held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday for its advanced memory packaging plant located in Indiana, USA. This plant, situated in West Lafayette, represents an investment of over $4 billion and covers 133.5 acres. It will become SK hynix’s first high-bandwidth memory (HBM) packaging base in the United States. SK hynix CEO Kwak Noh-Jung stated at the event that the plant’s cleanroom is expected to be operational by October 2028, with mass production of next-generation HBM planned to begin in the second half of 2029. Once fully operational, the plant will become a key HBM production center and is expected to employ around 1,000 people.
