July US Durable Goods New Orders Post Larger-Than-Expected Increase

08:42 AM EDT, 08/26/2026 (MT Newswires) -- New orders for US durable goods rose by 1.1% in July following an increase of 0.5% in the previous month, compared with the expectations for a smaller increase of 0.5% in a survey compiled by Bloomberg. Excluding a 2.3% increase in transportation orders, new orders would have been up 0.4% in June after a 1.1% increase in June. Expectations were for a 0.6% gain. Durable goods shipments rose by 1.0% in July, the same as in June. Excluding transportation, shipments were up 0.8% after a 1.2% rise in the previous month. Nondefense capital goods orders excluding aircraft increased by 0.2% in the month, while shipments rose by 1.4%.
