Eurozone construction output fell by 0.7% year-on-year in June, with building construction remaining weak

(1) In June, construction output in the Eurozone decreased by 0.7% year-on-year, with the previous value revised down from a 0.7% increase. The decline was mainly dragged by continued weakness in building construction, as this subcategory contracted by 6.5%, though the shrinkage narrowed compared to the previous 7.5%. (2) Growth rates for civil engineering and specialized construction activities also slowed significantly. Construction output in France declined by 4.5%, compared to a 0.7% decrease previously; in Spain, output fell by 8.5%, an improvement from the previous 12.8% contraction. On a month-on-month basis, construction output dropped by 1.3%, reversing the 0.2% growth seen in May.
