Moderna stock more than doubled Wednesday after its experimental mRNA-based cancer vaccine with Merck succeeded in a late-stage trial at preventing melanoma from returning or spreading.

-- The 177% move in the stock was the Moderna's largest increase on record and the biggest gain for any stock in the S&P 500 Index in the last 25 years, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
