(1) The Houthi military spokesperson announced three strategies targeting Saudi Arabia, including responding to blockades with counter-blockades, striking Saudi military assembly points, and safeguarding Yemeni sovereignty. Since announcing in July the prohibition of Saudi nautical navigation, the organization has attacked eight Saudi oil tankers—five in the Red Sea and three in the Gulf of Aden and Arabian Sea.(2) The Houthi organization claims to have prevented 48 Saudi oil tankers from passing and forced them to turn back, including 34 vessels headed for the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean and 14 towards the Red Sea. The scope of military operations has further expanded to include petroleum supply facilities in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, with around 14 strikes carried out against various military assemblies.(3) The organization warned Saudi Arabia against further escalation, stating that any full-scale escalation would provoke an equivalent response. It also stressed that lifting the blockade, ceasing military operations, and withdrawing foreign troops are prerequisites for de-escalating the current situation.(4) Maritime security in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea continues to face threats; this area is a key channel for international crude oil and bulk commodity transportation. Disruption of shipping lanes may lead to prolonged transit times, increased insurance costs, and heightened concerns about energy market supply. Future attention will focus on Saudi Arabia’s response and whether the international community will take measures to safeguard freedom of navigation in the region.
