- European stock markets extended their decline on Tuesday, with the pan-European STOXX 600 index falling by around 0.5%, marking the fifth consecutive day of losses. Climbing oil prices and Eurozone long-term bond yields hitting multi-year highs jointly weighed on risk assets.
- Iran stated that, due to stalled negotiations with the US, it would shift to a fully offensive military posture. The US ruled out the possibility of extending a temporary ceasefire agreement. Deteriorating geopolitical conditions pushed Brent crude to near 90 dollars per barrel, with the energy sector rising against the trend, up about 0.3%.
- Analysts pointed out that a bigger concern for Europe is natural gas. The market is closely watching whether inventories can be replenished at reasonable prices before winter. Current inventory levels and costs remain key uncertainties, while natural gas futures rose around 0.8%.
- The technology sector recorded the largest losses. Optical connectivity product manufacturer Huber+Suhner plunged about 5.7% as core profits and communications division orders fell short of expectations, marking the biggest single-day drop since April 2025. The basic resources sector fell around 1%, dragged down by weaker gold prices.
- Eurozone long-term government bond yields rose to multi-year highs, with Germany’s 10-year yield reaching the highest since 2011 and France’s 10-year yield climbing to a 16-year peak. Ongoing market concerns center on the prolonged Middle East conflict pushing up energy prices and spurring increased defense-related spending.
