  1. On Monday, the UK FTSE 100 Index edged higher, recouping part of last week's approximately 1.4% loss, trading around 10,780 points during the session, mainly boosted by softer US economic data, which reduced the urgency for the Federal Reserve to hike rates.
  2. The FTSE 250 and FTSE 350 indices also rose moderately in tandem, as UK second-quarter GDP maintained quarter-on-quarter growth, providing additional support for domestic investor sentiment.
  3. At the sector level, mining stocks led the market rally, with higher copper prices driving Antofagasta and Anglo American up, while Glencore also recorded significant gains. Precious metals miners were among the top gainers, benefiting from the strong performance of gold prices.
  4. Pharma giant AstraZeneca saw its share price strengthen after announcing progress on several drug trials. However, the company also announced the termination of a phase III clinical trial for a lung cancer treatment, somewhat limiting further upside momentum.
  5. Despite an overall market recovery, investors’ risk appetite remained subdued due to ongoing concerns over the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and persistent US-Iran tensions. Verbal exchanges between the two sides over the weekend exacerbated worries about energy supply uncertainties.
  6. Looking ahead, the market will focus on subsequent US economic data and developments in geopolitics for their further impact on risk assets.
