AstraZeneca (AZN.US) announced the termination of clinical trials for its experimental drug volrustomig, after earlier data indicated that the medication failed to show better efficacy in lung cancer treatment compared to existing therapies. The latest update from AstraZeneca’s eVOLVE-Lung02 Phase III trial revealed that volrustomig did not outperform the blockbuster drug Keytruda in treating patients with low PD-L1 expression metastatic non-small cell lung cancer. Both drugs were used in combination with chemotherapy. As a result, the independent expert panel overseeing the late-stage trial recommended stopping the study. According to market analysts, volrustomig was originally projected to generate about $1.3 billion in revenue by 2032.
