Sources: US-Canada Tariff Negotiations Stalemated

On August 15, according to Canadian sources, as the deadline for the United States to impose tariffs on Canada approaches, the US-Canada tariff negotiations have reached a stalemate due to significant differences in core interests. Senior trade officials from both countries have been engaged in intensive discussions in Washington for several days, but their positions remain far apart, with no signs of an agreement. On July 20, President Trump signed multiple announcements imposing a 50% tariff on hundreds of specific goods imported from Canada, including red wine, hockey sticks, and cement, under Section 338 of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act. The new tariff measures are set to take effect on August 19, Eastern Time.
