Meta's AI Monetization Plans Seen as Vague -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/07/30 11:221122 GMT - Meta's plans to make money from artificial intelligence seem vague, Quilter's Ben Barringer writes. Meta reported earnings after market close Wednesday, amid investor concern about whether the Facebook owner's huge investments in AI will turn into higher profits. But the company didn't provide straightforward answers, the head of technology writes. "They were quite vague about the monetization of AI." The uncertainty adds to concerns that Meta "haven't quite had the uptake of AI that they thought they were going to have," Barringer says. However, Meta's stock is cheap relative to recent history, and "patience is required as the AI story evolves," Barringer adds. Meta shares fall 8.35% premarket, putting the stock on track to extend its losing streak. (josephmichael.stonor@wsj.com)
