Odaily reports that Zcash mining company Fortitude has launched a 12-megawatt facility located in Grand Island, Nebraska, completing its first greenfield data center and expanding its proprietary power portfolio to 7 sites, exceeding 60 megawatts.

Fortitude stated that the facility has completed construction and electrical testing and is ready for commercial operation. This milestone comes ahead of Fortitude’s planned public listing through a business merger with publicly traded medical technology company HeartSciences (Nasdaq: HSCS).

Fortitude expects, assuming successful mining machine deployment and stable power, network, and market conditions, this facility will reduce Zcash mining’s direct cash cost from about $70 per unit to about $40 per unit. The company says the cost reduction is due to lower-cost proprietary power and more efficient, next-generation mining machines.

The facility is expected to procure electricity at around $0.045 per kilowatt-hour, located between two solar power facilities and adjacent to a substation with surplus capacity. Fortitude was spun off from the Foundry mining division, a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group, in January 2025, and its business includes mining Bitcoin and other proof-of-work cryptocurrencies.
