Swiss Franc Could Extend Losses if SNB Keeps Rates Low -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/07/28 07:540754 GMT - The Swiss franc could extend its losses on the prospect of the Swiss National Bank keeping interest rates at 0% this year, ING's Chris Turner says in a note. Switzerland's low rates have driven franc underperformance as global rates rise on higher oil prices. The franc could be favored as a funding currency in carry trades where investors borrow in low rate currencies to invest in ones with higher rates, he says. If the Federal Reserve raises rates on Wednesday, the dollar could rise to 0.85 francs in August, he says. The dollar rises 0.2% to a 13-month high of 0.8199, LSEG data show. The euro rises to a six-month high of 0.9318 francs. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
