1. Japanese Finance Minister Katayama Mayumi issued a renewed warning to foreign exchange speculators at an event in Tokyo on Tuesday, stating that the Japanese government's stance on speculative yen fluctuations remains unchanged and that action will be taken when necessary. 2. Katayama revealed that Japan and the US share the same views on exchange rate issues and are both prepared to respond if needed. She did not comment on the possibility of joint intervention in the foreign exchange market, but specifically mentioned a recent US report expressing concern about the yen's decades-long weakness and excessive exchange rate volatility. 3. This statement was released at a time when the yen-to-dollar exchange rate continues to hover near historic lows, with the latest quote at 163.76 yen per US dollar. Despite Japanese authorities having conducted record-breaking interventions earlier this year, investors remain highly vigilant about potential buying actions.
