(1) The chairman of the Financial Services Commission of South Korea, Lee Eog-weon, stated that further measures will be considered to curb the demand for single-stock leveraged ETFs. These products are regarded as one of the key drivers behind recent heightened volatility in the stock market.(2) Under the new policy, the minimum cash margin required to invest in single-stock leveraged ETFs will be raised to 30 million Korean won (approximately $20,400) starting this Friday (July 31). The government is implementing this measure weeks ahead of schedule in order to stabilize the market and protect investors.(3) Lee Eog-weon said that if demand does not sufficiently cool down, authorities will conduct early reviews and prepare additional measures, including implementing aggregate management. This would restrict investors' allocations to these ETFs, so that the investment scale does not exceed 20% of an individual's total financial investment portfolio.
