(1) The Australian federal and state governments, together with the industrial company Perdaman Group, will jointly study the feasibility of building a new refinery in Karratha, Western Australia, in order to rebuild domestic refining capacity. This move aims to address the country's excessive reliance on imported fuel, an issue highlighted by the Iran war. (2) Prime Minister Albanese is expected to announce the research plan on Tuesday, and the government will allocate 4 million Australian dollars (about 2.8 million US dollars) for this purpose.
