Quantum stocks are gaining after AT&T signed a deal to expand its use of D-Wave Quantum's quantum-computing technology.
D-Wave's shares led the sector's gains with an 18% jump to $19.11. Shares of IonQ and Rigetti Computing were each up more than 10% while Quantum Computing shares were up 7.3%.
Ahead of the opening bell, D-Wave said AT&T was planning to use its quantum-computing technology to address complex optimization challenges across its network operations.
The company said new quantum capabilities could help increase the benefits of agentic tools in AT&T's network operations. Those tools are already improving operations including outage detection and management, which helped reduce customer downtime last year, it said.
AT&T has already used D-Wave's technology to reduce processing time for a network-optimization workload from about 1 hour to less than 15 seconds. It will now explore using it across a broader range of applications, including outage detection, technician routing, network build planning and traffic management, the companies said.
