Ondo abandons independent blockchain path and launches new execution network to build "exchange-level on-chain performance" architecture
ChainCatcher reports that Ondo Finance has announced the launch of the new Ondo Network, positioned as a high-performance execution layer designed to combine centralized exchange (CEX)-level transaction speeds with the non-custodial and secure settlement capabilities of blockchain technology. Ondo CEO Ian De Bode stated that Ondo Network is an "evolved version" of the previous Ondo Chain plan; the company will not operate two separate networks simultaneously, but will shift from building a complete blockchain to focusing exclusively on execution layer architecture.
According to the announcement, Ondo initially planned to fully tokenize real-world assets through Ondo Chain, but after developing the Ondo Perps perpetual contract trading platform and communicating with users, it found that the current core bottleneck in the market is not asset settlement, but the efficiency of trade execution. Ondo Network adopts a decoupled architecture for execution, validation, and settlement, and uses secure hardware-isolated execution environments to boost transaction speed while maintaining users’ self-custody of assets, verifiable transactions, and permissionless blockchain features.
Currently, Ondo Perps has become the first application built on this network, supporting 24/7 trading of stock and commodity perpetual contracts, and allowing tokenized real-world assets to be used as collateral. Ondo stated that in the future, the network can also support spot trading, lending, structured products, and other applications that require high performance, privacy protection, and verifiable execution. In addition, the launch of Ondo Network will not change the status of the ONDO token. The CEO said ONDO will continue to serve as the governance and incentive token for the Ondo RWA ecosystem and market infrastructure; as the network gradually decentralizes, ONDO will be used to coordinate incentives for validator nodes, observers, and ecosystem participants.
