A weekend ceasefire between the US and Iran boosts gold prices, reclaiming the 4,100 mark, as falling oil prices ease tightening concerns.

  1. During the Asian trading session on Monday, international gold prices showed an upward trend, with spot gold once surpassing the 4,100 threshold and reaching a two-day high of 4,115.89 USD/ounce, an increase of about 1.5%.
  2. According to Kudo institutional analyst Konstantinos Chrysikos in an email, as oil prices retrace, bond yields edge lower, and the USD weakens, the downward pressure on gold has eased somewhat.
  3. The analyst noted that the US and Iran paused military exchanges over the past weekend, which directly drove down oil prices. The decline in oil prices helps curb further global inflationary pressures, thereby alleviating, to some extent, market concerns about continued monetary policy tightening. Since typically, rising interest rates suppress the appeal of non-yielding assets such as gold, the current easing of interest rate expectations has provided support for gold prices.
